‘Anah- Humble

“Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.”  (James 4:10)

Humility is a central concept of Christianity and one that we have all strived to achieve at one time or another.  We can act humble, we can choose the low road, but how do we really become meek humble in our heart?  How do we truly break ourselves so that pleasing perfume will arise from our heart to the Lord?

The Journey of The Soul

This quote is from the wisdom of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, words and condensation by Tzvi Freeman.

“In each journey of your life you must be where you are. You may only be passing through on your way to somewhere else seemingly more important — nevertheless, there is purpose in where you are right now.”

The Potter and His Clay

“And they said, “That is hopeless!” So we will walk according to our own plans, and we will everyone obey the dictates of his evil heart.” (Jeremiah 18:12)

This portion of scripture is from when God asked the prophet Jeremiah to go the potter’s house and observe him working the clay. God teaches us, through this example, that just as the potter has the power to shape and form the clay as he desires, we too are like clay in God’s hands. Unfortunately, the children of God tend to squirm in the Master Potters hands as He molds and shapes us. Can you identify?

Jesus Is Our Trust

“Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.”  (Jeremiah 17:7 KJV)

As I was reading this morning I felt the familiar flurry of the Holy Spirit beckoning me to take a closer look at this passage.  I decided to take a peek.  I didn’t expect to find that the word “truth” and “hope” were from the same root…but they are.  My mind immediately went into proper sentence structure.  I was puzzled that the prophet would use the same verb in one sentence yet as I looked closer I realized he didn’t – the second time the word is used it is expressed as a noun.

Lord, what are You trying to say to me today?

Our Shelter

“Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.”  (Proverbs 30:5)

I had a little fun with this passage and translated it through ancient Hebrew pictographs as it was speaking to me.  I hope it’s a blessing to you too.  Please keep in mind this is not a literal translation but rather a spiritual one as I gaze into the the Hebrew letters of light.

Every utterance, spoken or written, by God – our Strong Leader, is righteous, pure, refined and as gold.  He is a shield a lifted up to those who trust Him and take refuge in Him.  From this trust comes a shelter of protection hedging us in, nay it is surrounding and supporting all who take refuge in Him.

Thank You Lord.

May Faith Arise

I am sharing a bit of an article I found because it gives a powerful example about the importance of visualizing life through our belief not our un-belief.

We have been talking for some time now about how the word faith (‘emunah) and truth (‘emet) both come from the root word amen.  If felt to share this pondering because as I read it I was once again reminded of the importance of believing that God is for us and not against us.

Before moving on let’s recap what the Hebrew word “Amen” means.  The word Amen means “surely” and “so be it” yet at the core meaning of amen is: firmness and support.  It is used to describe a foster-father/mother or nurse who supports and nourishes a child.

Lev (Heart)

Last night was the second week of an eight week Hebrew class I’m teaching.  In only two weeks the class knows how to speak and read in Hebrew the words Shabbat  שַׁבַּת, Shalom  שָׁלוֹם , and the Hebrew word for heart  ל ב.

Because one of the new letters that I taught on was the lovely Lamed ( ל ) I shared how the Rabbi’s consider the Torah the heart ( ל ב) of the bible as well as all of creation.  Let me explain.
