The Twinkle In God's Eye
Tiffany Ann Lewis

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.”  (Ps. 32:8)  I believe the Lord is calling for those who know what is on His heart to simply release it into the atmosphere and not have to wait for a command.  A servant does what he’s commanded, but a friend catches a look in the eye and responds without a word needing to be spoken.  God wants to guide us with His eye.

Recently as I read the familiar passage regarding the valley of dry bones found in Ez. 37:1-4, I saw it in this light.  Let me show you what I mean.  The prophet Ezekiel is in the Spirit, meaning he’s hanging with the Lord in his devotional time and he’s having an experiential vision.  In this vision, God sets him down in a valley of dry bones.  The Lord then causes Ezekiel, while in the Spirit, to pass by the bones all around, to get a closer look at them.  God allows Ezekiel to see the condition of the bones and they were indeed very dry.  Next, the Lord asks Ezekiel a question, “Son of man, can these bones live?”   Now that’s a loaded question.  I mean seriously, what do you say when the God of the universe asks you something like that?  Ezekiel didn’t know where God was going with the question so he played it safe by keeping the answer in God’s hands responding, “O Lord God, You know.”

Listen, when the omniscient God asks a question He’s not looking for an answer, He’s looking for a response.  To me, it seems like God was making a suggestive statement and wanting Ezekiel to catch something in the Spirit and run with it.  I can see God with a smile on His face and a twinkle in His eye saying, “whatcha’ think son, can these bones live?”  Desiring an enthusiastic response like, “Why…YES, LORD GOD…these dry bones CAN live!

YES, LORD GOD – that lame man CAN walk!

YES, LORD GOD – that blind woman CAN see!

YES, LORD GOD – that marriage CAN be restored!
YES, LORD GOD – that alcoholic CAN be set free!

YES, LORD GOD – that cancer CAN be healed!

YES, LORD GOD – that suicidal heart CAN find hope!

                      YES, LORD GOD – WHATEVER!!!!

Ezekiel didn’t catch God’s vibe on the first try so in verse 4 God goes back to the command mode of communication and tells Ezekiel to prophesy.   That’s cool, no shame on Ezekiel’s part, he still got there and God’s will was done, HalleluYah!   Oh but beloved, don’t you just long to catch the twinkle in your God’s eye?

Consider Peter and John in Acts 3.  They walked daily to the temple and everyday there was a man that was lame laying at the temple gates begging for alms.  Peter and John must have seen this guy many times before, yet this day they stopped and looked at the man.  There was an eye-to-eye connection between them, and an eye-to-eye connection with God by the Spirit.  They must have seen the twinkle in His eye for scripture reveals that Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.  And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.” (Acts 3:6-7)   Notice, they didn’t gather the pastor or elders, they didn’t anoint the man with oil for healing, they didn’t fast, they didn’t even pray.  They saw the condition of the lame man and they responded to the twinkle in God’s eye and declared on earth as they saw it in heaven.  YES, LORD GOD – that lame man CAN walk!  In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.

“Thus says the LORD…Ask Me of things to come concerning My sons; And concerning the work of My hands, you command Me.” (Isaiah 45:11 NKJV)  Staggering!  Please catch this in the right Spirit.  I do not believe this is speaking of an arrogant attitude or a religious spirit that presumes to command the hand of the LORD God Almighty, but rather the manner of someone who is holding the hand of the LORD God Almighty.  I believe it speaks of the heart of someone who has an intimate relationship with Him, a person who is one with their supernatural God. (see Jn. 17:21)  A man or woman who has their affection and attention fixed on the Lord 24/7.  Keeping a steady gaze on the Face of the Lord positions us to be guided by His eye.

Beloved, there is an open door and God is inviting us to look and catch the twinkle in His eye.  This look will empower us to pray with a boldness that doesn’t presume or plead, but rather expects God’s will to be accomplished here on earth.  It’s time to catch the twinkle in our Father’s eye and respond with a “YES, LORD GOD!”  Amen.
