One of the Hebrew words meaning “repentance” is nacham נָחַם (Strong’s #5162). Nacham means: to feel sorrow, to be sorry but it also means: to comfort, console, extend compassion. We see this word in the beloved Psalm 23:4 “…Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me”. To David, the Lord’s rod and staff, symbols of correction and protection, were a comfort (nacham) to him.
The goodness of the Lord brings us to repentance. The goodness of the Lord draws us to change. The goodness of the Lord comforts us when we return to Him.
May the joy of the Lord give us the strength to run into His arms every time we fail. Amen and Amen.
